Functionality

Each player controls one quadrant of the board. They start the game by spending a number of points on military units and terraforming their territory. Terraformed tiles affect both unit movement and combat in various ways. Once the game starts, players take turns moving units, terraforming tiles with the power of their General, and pursuing win conditions. Players win the game by defeating enough enemy units, terraforming their territory to perfection, or capturing relics from other players.

Purpose

Sortie offers players freedom through different unit types, terraforming options, and win conditions. Players can follow the strategy that fits best with their playstyle or alter their plans on the fly in reaction to the movements of their enemies. Players can learn about different strategies and how to counter them as they play the game multiple times.

My Role

I worked in a team with four other RIT GDD students to create Sortie. I participated in regular group meetings to design the game's mechanics, physical components, and rulebook. I oversaw multiple playtests and recorded feedback used to improve the game throughout development. I also single-handedly created a version of Sortie which is playable through Tabletop Simulator on Steam. This involved creating textures and placing assets to create a virtual version of the board and all other components.
